Keep it public

The upgrade for Bowral will now be fully funded by the government!

In March 2015, during the state election campaign, Health Minister Jillian Skinner committed $50 million for a major upgrade of Bowral Hospital.

In September 2016, the Baird Government announced that the upgrade will be handed to a private operator in a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

This proposal was done with no consultation with staff or community. A PPP is not a true public hospital. It is an arrangement that gives a profit-seeking entity control over public services and is the wrong path for Australia.

On 7 July, just a day after news broke that Wyong Hospital would remain public, the government announced it would stick by its 2015 election promise to fund the $50 million upgrade of Bowral Hospital. The hospital will now remain in public hands and not be gifted to a private operator to run partly off the taxes we pay – a win for the community and health workers!
